Sawmill layoffs are being handed out in Ladysmith and Qualicum Beach.
That’s according to Cam Shiell with the Public and Private Workers of Canada.
Shiell says that’s as a result of the policy of the former Liberal government that saw raw logs shipped off our shores.
He says it was an NDP promise to change that but the government is not moving fast enough to prevent the layoffs…..
Shiell says more layoffs are expected and it is only a matter of time before secondary users, like pulp and paper mills and remanufacturing plants are forced to follow suit.
