Rescue crews called to Westwood Lake in Nanaimo

Nanaimo Fire Rescue Crews responded to a possible drowning at Westwood Lake on Tuesday afternoon. One person was airlifted to hospital and another was taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

Assistant Chief Greg Norman says it’s one of the more serious incidents they’ve had to deal with at Westwood Lake recently. Two people who were in an aluminum fishing boat ended up in the water when their boat capsized around 3:00pm.

Norman says the person airlifted to hospital was unconscious, the other person who was rescued was walking and talking when taken to hospital.

He says they’re releasing more details later this afternoon.
