Fate of Ladysmith Schools to be decided Wednesday

Extended consultations on the future of schools in Ladysmith are wrapping up, and hundreds are expected to pack Ladysmith Secondary to the hear the SD 68 Board make its decision.

A Ladysmith Working Group has been suggesting some options but, despite that effort, the Superintendent is recommending closures under the 10 Year Enhanced Facilities Plan.

Aaron stone is a member of LWG and co-chair of the Ecole Davis Road PAC.

The Superintendent’s recommendations are:

1)    The board of trustees will vote on permanently closing Ecole Davis Road in June 2014; consolidating the French and English programs there to Ladysmith Intermediate and Ladysmith Primary.

2)    Permanently closing North Oyster Elementary; coinciding with the opening of the renovated Cedar Elementary in 2015.
