Nanaimo names new fire chief

The City of Nanaimo has a new Fire Chief.
Karen Fry’s career in community fire fighting and fire prevention spans 18 years, beginning in 1999 with Nanaimo Fire hiring her as a dispatcher.
Since then she has carried out a range of duties, for the City of Nanaimo but also in Surrey.
With the appointment, Fry becomes the first woman to head up a career structured fire department for both the City of Nanaimo and Vancouver Island and the second for B.C.

She replaces Chief Craig Richardson who retired in the spring of 2017.
