New developments in passenger rail saga

The Island Corridor Foundation says it’s going to make an announcement this week on the future of passenger service on the Island.

This as work to get the passenger trains rolling again continues.

Green Party Leader Elizabeth May, MP for Saanich-Gulf Islands, met with VIA Rail executives in Montreal last week.  She says Island MPs from all parties are trying to break the log-jam.

May says the bottom line is that more public pressure is needed to show VIA there is real demand for passenger service between Victoria and Courtenay.

The ICF announcement is scheduled for Wednesday.  There’s been no hint as to what it might be.

It’s unclear how that might effect Parksville Councillor Marc Lefebvre’s motion of no-confidence in the Island Corridor Foundation.  It’s expected to go to the Regional District of Nanaimo Board for a vote next week.
