Centre for the Arts Nanaimo pulling out of Centre Stage

Centre for the Arts Nanaimo says it’s done managing Nanaimo Centre Stage after City Council refused to give it more money.

The group’s Board has voted to keep running the threatre until June 30th to honour the bookings they already have.

The Board says it just can’t accept a 3 year deal with fixed funding of $11,350 , which is what Council approved last week.  They say it’s not possible to operate the theatre space with that level of funding.

The Board is, however, calling on the City to find a way to keep the theatre at 25 Victoria Road running after the end of June.
