Former police officer excited for new role with local government

There’s a new councillor in Nanaimo.

Out of the 13 possible candidates, Sheryl Armstrong, the former RCMP officer won with more than 3600 votes and she says she was pleasantly surprised when she found out how many votes she gained.

Armstrong believes that her previous job with the RCMP will help with a smooth transition into a new role with the local government.

Armstrong says the first thing she would like to tackle head on is affordable house issue in Nanaimo.

The official results of the byelection should be released on Wednesday.
