Cold Water Challenge Sunday the Colliery Dams

The water will be chilly, but a brave group of Nanaimo residents will be jumping in the lake at the Colliery Dams on Sunday. They’re raising money to support the Tilicum Lellum Aboriginal Friendship Centre. Councillors Bill McKay and Fred Pattje are among a group gathering sponsorships ahead of the challenge.

Program Coordinator Tammy Wylie says they’re thrilled that people are coming together to support the Aboriginal Friendship Centre’s dreams. Wylie says they’re raising money to consolidate all their services into one building in the south end, instead of five. Their first priority is building a childcare centre.

Wylie says the Cold Water Challenge kicks off at 1:00pm Sunday at the lower dam. People interested in supporting Tilicum Lellum can come out to the event, or call the Aboriginal Friendship Centre at (250) 753-8291.
