New St. Mary's Church in Gibsons to be dedicated Sunday

This is a pretty exciting weekend for Catholics on the Sunshine Coast.

After months of planning and construction the new St. Mary’s Church in Gibsons is going to welcome worshipers for Sunday Mass.

The parisoners have been holding services in the hall behind the church on Gibsons Way while work on the $1.2-million dollar project was underway.

Archbishop Michael Miller is coming up to from Vancouver to perform the dedication. He last saw the site at the groundbreaking in August of 2013, and says he’s eager to see how the plans and drawings he’s been looking at have come to life.  Miller also says he’s impressed with how quickly the parish has pulled the project together.

The original St. Mary’s was one of the oldest buildings in Gibsons.  It was built in 1945, then moved to the corner of Park Road and Gibsons Way in the early ’60s.
