Theft from unlocked car in Sechelt (video included)

Mounties are reminding residents to lock up their cars.

Sunshine Coast RCMP have a video that shows three young men wandering the streets in Sechelt before one of them opened up a car door in a nearby driveway and appeared to take some items from the car.

The entire incident happened under a minute.

“This video is a great example of just how quickly a theft from auto can occur,” says Constable Harrison Mohr.

“Had the door been locked, these youth would have moved on. Here on the Sunshine Coast, we have far more thefts from unlocked vehicles than we do from vehicles where a window was smashed because of a locked door. These are often crimes of opportunity.”

Police are encouraging residents to call their non-emergency line if someone stole from your car or attempted to do so.
