Nanaimo RCMP community meetings spark renewed interest in Block Watch

Nanaimo RCMP say they’re seeing a lot of success with a series of community meetings.

The next is coming up Thursday night.

RCMP are trying to get neighbourhoods more involved in tackling property crime, through things like Block Watch.

Constable Gary O’Brien says they’ll also be showing off their new crime mapping tool and hearing the concerns of residents.

O’Brien is also the detachment’s Block Watch coordinator. He says since they launched the online crime mapping, and started the community meetings, 7 more Block Watches have been set up in the city.

The March 27th meeting is at Nanaimo Alliance Church at Merideth and Boundary, starting at 7pm.
