BCNU heading to another Island Health Board meeting

The BC Nurses Union is planning, once again, to be out in forceĀ at anĀ Island Health Board meeting.

Nurses from Nanaimo and Victoria will be showing up with petitions when the Board meets Wednesday in Esquimalt.

The BCNU is trying to get Island HealthĀ to stopĀ Care Delivery Model Redesign.

CDMR uses care aides do some of the jobs nurses usually do. It’s already in place at Nanaimo Regional General, and will roll out at Victoria area hospitals this Spring.

BCNU Pacific Rim Regional Chair Jo Salken says the message will be the same as it’s been every other time they’ve gone to the Board.

Salken says she’s not sure what itĀ will take to get Island Health to listen, but they plan to keep up the pressure.

Green MLA Andrew Weaver, whose riding is in the Victoria area, has called on Island Health to put CDMR on hold.
