NDP worried Nanaimo – HSB could be next ferry route to face big cuts

NDP Ferries Critic Claire Trevena says a government MLA is hinting significant cuts could be in the works for the Nanaimo – Horseshoe Bay route.

Cuts on the smaller BC Ferries routes are supposed to take effect next month, but the government has already said it expects Ferries to find some savings on the major routes too.

In Question Period Tuesday Trevena called on Transportation Minister Todd Stone to reassure people about the future of the Nanaimo – Horseshoe Bay run after word his parliamentary secretary, MLA Jordan Sturdy, was telling Horseshoe Bay businesses cuts are in the works.

BC Ferries has been told to find $4.9-million in savings on the major routes by April of 2016.
