Senate fisheries committee visting Nanaimo

The Senate’s Fisheries and Oceans Committee is spending Wednesday in Nanaimo.

The Senators are studying aquaculture in Canada, but to date all their hearings have been in Ottawa.

Senator Fabian Manning of Newfoundland chairs the committee, he says they’re in BC to hear first-hand about the state of the industry; the challenges and success stories.

He also says they’re looking at how regulations are working since a 2009 court ruling forced the province to give up jurisdiction over aquaculture to the federal government.

The public hearing at the Coast Bastion starts at 8:30am March 26th and runs through to 8:30 at night.
