Municipal elections in BC are just over 7 months away, and 2014 could be the year the Sunshine Coast Regional District allows mail-in ballots.
The SCRD’s Legislative Services department is recommending the Board move to allow the mail-in votes.
A report coming to committee March 27th points out that in 2011 voter turnout in the rural areas was between 29 and 36 per-cent. And, a fair number of elegible voters are travelling during the fall and winter when the elections are happening.
Allowing mail-in voting would require an ammendment to the SCRD’s Election Bylaw.
