Sunshine Coast School Board welcomes new Chair

There’s a new Chair at the Sunshine Coast School Board.

Betty Baxter, who had been vice-Chair was chosen this week to take over from Silas White.

Baxter acknowledges she’s coming into the position at a time when School Districts across B.C. are having a difficult relationship with the provincial government over funding and labour issues.  But, she also says she’s taking the helm of a Board that’s ready to build on some solid accomplishments, like seeing construction started on a new Gibsons Elementary.

Baxter says she’s also proud of the direction the Board has been taking with public consultation. They’re looking for public input right now on the coming budget, the school calendar and West Sechelt Elementary, where the Board is considering new catchment areas to reduce overcrowding.

White, who did not wish to be considered for Chair again after 5 years, will be the SD 46 Board’s representative at the B.C.  School Trustees Association.
