Operations back to normal after emergency landing at Nanaimo Airport

Operations are back to normal at Nanaimo Airport after an Air Canada plane had to make an emergency landing Thursday due to an engine fire.

There were 35 passengers and 3 crew members on board.  No one was injured.

Airport President Mike Hooper says they were ready for a full emergency response, that thankfully wasn’t needed.  The incident did, however, shut the airport’s runway.  “We closed the runway for several hours, there were some delays to other flights, but we are are now fully operational,” he says.

Transportation Safety Board investigators and Air Canada maintenace crews have been going over the plane, a Dehavilland Dash 8 – 300, to try to find out what went wrong. An malfunction in the engine’s oil system is suspected.
