Water restrictions begin today for many

Starting today, (Mon) Sunshine Coast Regional District water users will be on stage 1 of the outdoor water use restrictions.

Shane Walkey Manager of Utility Services and Infrastructure Services for the regional district says watering devices can be used during stage one.

If you have an even address outdoor watering is allowed on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday from 7 to 9 in the morning and from 7 to 9 at night.

Stage 2 water restrictions, which come into effect today, target automated sprinkler systems, to ensure they are operating efficiently and not wasting water.
That’s according to the Regional District of Nanaimo Chair, Bill Veenhof who says under normal conditions, Stage 2 restrictions will be in place for the duration of the summer.

Sprinkling can only occur on even days for even-numbered houses and on odd days for odd-numbered houses.

And, only for a maximum of two hours between 7-10 am or 7-10 pm.
Hand-watering, drip irrigation and micro irrigation can continue at any time.
Vegetable and food gardens are exempt from the restrictions.

Washing vehicles and outdoor surfaces is still permitted, as is filling fountains, hot tubs and pools.
