New commander named for Nanaimo RCMP

RCMPThe RCMP and the City of Nanaimo say Oak Bay Chief Constable Mark Fisher is taking command of the Nanaimo RCMP in the New Year.

Fisher was chosen by a selection committee made up of the RCMP, the City, the District of Lantzville, and the Snuneymuxw First Nation.

Before taking the job in Oak Bay, Fisher was with the RCMP as detachment commander for West Shore. He also worked in several other B.C. communities, including Gold River, and Comox Valley on the Island.

“The Officer in Charge plays a critical leadership role in Nanaimo, both among the RCMP membership and with Council and senior staff”, says Nanaimo Mayor, John Ruttan. “Chief Constable Fisher’s experience and familiarity with both urban and rural policing issues will add considerable value to the vision Council has set for protective services in our community. We look forward to welcoming Chief Constable Fisher to Nanaimo in March 2014.”
