The search for Lucy the emu ends happily

The week-long search for a missing emu is finally over in Nanaimo. Lucy the male emu had been on the lam since escaping from owner Tim Genner’s property in Cassidy on Sunday. There were sightings all week, but the 150lb bird was spotted Friday on Nanaimo Lakes Rd. After a few hours of searching the area, Genner finally found his pet near College Dr, behind Vancouver Island University. With a little coaxing, he managed to load Lucy into a waiting van, but it wasn’t an easy process…

Tim says Lucy is now home safe and sound, although he’s a little worse for wear – Lucy managed to give him a good kick in the process. Nevertheless, Tim says he’s thrilled to have his beloved pet home, and he’ll finally be able to get some sleep.
