Weather, road conditions eyed as factors in Nanaimo and Sunshine Coast accidents

Nanaimo RCMP say they’re still investigating an accident that left a pedestrian injured, but they’re reminding drivers to be careful because winter road conditions may have been a factor.

Police say just after 4pm Tuesday afternoon a van driven by a 36 year old man from Duncan was heading south on Bowen Road when it was hit side-on by a pick-up driven by a 41 year old Nanaimo man.

The crash sent the van onto a traffic island, where it hit a man waiting to use the crosswalk.  The 61 year old from Ladysmith was taken to Nanaimo Regional General with leg injuries.

It’s also unclear at this point if weather or road conditions had anything to do with an accident on Highway 101 near Madeira Park Tuesday evening.  A truck went off the road.  It caught fire after crashing, but there were no serious injuries.
