Sighting in the search for Lucy the emu

There’s been a sighting of Lucy the elusive emu in Nanaimo. The 150 lb flightless bird has been on the loose since Sunday, after escaping from owner Tim Genner’s property on Nanaimo River Rd in Cassidy.

Genner spent Thursday searching the Lost Lake Rd area, after someone reported hearing the distinctive low growling made by male emus. But Genner says he’s confident the report of a sighting on Nanaimo Lakes Rd is a solid lead in the search for his missing pet.

Genner says it’s more consistent with the last time Lucy was actually spotted. He says people should not try to catch the emu. The best thing to do is call Nanaimo RCMP or Genner himself at 250-591-6131.
