Vancouver Island University has created a new Centre for Pre-Confederation Treaties and Reconciliation. Former Snuneymuxw Chief Doug White is taking on the role of Interim Director. He says it will open up the opportunity for some important dialogue and research.
VIU is in a Territory where a Douglas Treaty was entered into in 1854, and there were 13 others on Vancouver Island alone.
White says they plan to establish an advisory board and put the wheels in motion to host another conference on Pre-Confederation Treaties in the near future, like VIU did a couple years ago.
