NDP's Krog says compensation for Pickton victims isn't enough

Attorney General Suzanne Anton has announced a $4.9 million compensation fund for the children of serial killer Robert Pickton’s many victims. The children of up to 67 women possibly murdered by Pickton are eligible to each receive $50,000. The compensation fund is just one of the many recommendations made by Missing Women Commissioner Wally Opal in 2012.

NDP Attorney General Critic, and Nanaimo MLA, Leonard Krog says he was hoping the government would implement more of the recommendations, like starting a bus along the so-called Highway of Tears to eliminate the need for women to hitchhike.

Krog says the refusal on the part of the government to follow Opal’s recommendations shows a lack of commitment to the justice file in general.
