Society welcomes chance for "Cumulative Effects Framework" for Howe Sound

The Future of Howe Sound Society says it’s happy to see the province is expanding its “Cumulative Effects Framework” pilot project, and they want to get Howe SoundĀ approved for 2014.

The “Framework” gives areas with a lot of resource projects a way to look at them as a whole, with provincial government help.

The Society’s Ruth Simons says that fits perfectly with their goal of having a coordinated plan for future development in Howe Sound, which is under several different governments and First Nations.

But she says it’s one thing to have to tool available, and another to get the province to OK Howe Sound as oneĀ of the areas to get it.

Simons says the Society is becoming increasingly worried about potential re-industrialization of the area with projects like an LNG terminal now on the books.

The Sunshine Coast Regional District is due to hear more about that project later this week, when representatives of Woodfibre LNG are slated to appear at a committee meeting.
