Nanaimo fast ferry not launching this summer

Those hoping a fast ferry between Nanaimo and Vancouver would be up and running by this summer will be disappointed. Island Ferries Marine Operations Director Dave Marshall says they don’t have all their investors in place yet. He says it will take six months from the time they raise all the money to when they can begin service.

Marshall says in order to get investors on board, they need to have at least a draft lease signed with the City of Nanaimo for a ferry terminal. He says it’s a key part of the equation that will give investors the confidence they need.

Marshall says talks between Island Ferries and the City of Nanaimo are continuing and appear to be going well. He says the ball is in the City’s court, and they’re optimistic good news will come in the near future.
