Premier dumps Les, but defends Wilson's LNG job

After her about-face on a 140-thousand dollar contract for former cabinet minister John Les, premier Christy Clark is defending an appointment for a former Powell River Sunshine Coast MLA.

Gordon Wilson’s job as an “LNG Buy BC” advocate was renewed last month. It’s worth 50 thousand dollars.

But Clark says the former Liberal leader and one-time NDP cabinet minister is doing a good job.

Clark says Wilson has been travelling to various communities trying to connect small business with opportunities in the LNG sector, which is a key part of how the government sees LNG benefiting the province.

Wilson publicly backed Clark in the last election, leading to criticism that his government job is nothing more than a pay-back.

NDP Leader Adrian Dix joked in the Legislature Wednesday that, “Wilson knows about as much about LNG as John Les does about emergency preparedness.”
