Trevena tables BC Ferry Coalition petition

The BC Ferry Coalition left a message for the provincial government after their big protest at the Legislature.

A 3-thousand signature petition, outlining just what they want the province to do in the face of pending cuts to BC Ferries.

NDP Ferries Critic, and North Island MLA, Claire Trevena tabled the petition Wednesday, telling the Legislature it’s is, “…asking that the government take B.C. Ferries back under more direct control, with a clear mandate to deliver affordable and reliable public transportation services that meet community needs by immediately stopping service cuts and consulting with the affected communities, cancelling fare increases and reducing all fares by 30 percent, and taking responsibility for debt service and capital expenditures.”

Plans are underway for more protests this Saturday, March 15th: in Gibsons, Sechelt, Gabriola and other coastal communities.

BC Ferries is supposed to announced its final reduced schedules at the end of the month, with the cuts kicking in at the end of April.
