Drugs and alcohol likely factors in Nanaimo car crash

A woman has been given a 90-day driving prohibition after she drove her Mazda through a red light in Nanaimo and crashed into another car.
Nanaimo RCMP responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of 5th Street and the Nanaimo Parkway on Wednesday morning.
The driver of the Mazda wasn’t wearing a seat belt. She ended up unconscious on her passenger’s lap, after hitting the passenger-side window. She was taken to Nanaimo regional General Hospital. The driver of the other car and the passenger in the Mazda were also treated at NRGH.
Witnesses reported the Mazda was driving erratically before the crash. Drugs and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors.
