Nanaimo’s new 11.2 million dollar water reservoir is coming on line in the next few weeks, and getting it ready could mean brownish water for some people.
Water Resources Manager Bill Simms says they’re doing a lot of testing and preparation work to commission the facility on Nanaimo Lakes Road, and that might stir up sediment that’s settled in the pipes.
Simms says there’s nothing harmful in the sediment, but it could mean tap water comes out brown and unpleasant to drink.
He recommends running an outside hose till it clears. If you don’t have access to an outside hose, use a cold water tap, such as a bathtub.
The new Reservoir Number 1 will also use the flow of water to generate electricity. And Simms says they hope to start selling the first power to the grid soon.
