Community Forest releases watershed assessment

The Sunshine Coast Community Forest says a newly competed study of the Chapman and Gray Creek watersheds is providing some valuable information.

They’re part of the Community Forest tenure, and the source of much of the area’s drinking water.

The study shows the biggest impact of past logging was increased “turbidity”; or muddiness caused by landslides.

Community Forest Chair Glen Bonderud says the study also showed a lot of landslide activity has been natural.

Bonderud says there were also lots of questions about future plans during the public presentation of the study.  He says they remain firm in their promise of no logging in the watersheds for 25 years, but the study is going to serve as a baseline for  decisions about activity after that time.
