Some Sunshine Coasters keen to see SCRD live-stream

Some people on the Sunshine Coast are saying it’s time for the Sunshine Coast Regional District to start live streaming meetings on the web.

Paul Johnston of Roberts Creek is one of the people behind a petition asking the SCRD to set up web casts, or look at broadcasting meetings on the local cable channel.

He says because the SCRD serves a large, and spread-out, population it’s not easy for people to go to the meetings.  Which isn’t as big an issue in Gibsons or Sechelt.

The SCRD has experimented with putting some meetings on YouTube. They say, however, it would cost about $20-thousand to set up live streaming, and that spending was rejected by the Board in its recent budget debates.

The on-line version of the petition is at www.thepetitionsite.com, there are also paper copies circulating in the community.
