City adopts Cultural Plan

Nanaimo City Council has signed off on the Cultural Plan.

A 2012 study found the arts and culture sector is worth about $153-million for the local economy, and the Plan maps out how the City can support and grow that sector over the next 6 years.

A long list of speakers showed up at Monday night’s Council meeting to support the plan, and urge Council to follow through.

VIU president Ralph Nilson was one of them.

The City has already checked off one item in the Plan; creating a Culture and Heritage department.  The plan also calls for increasing the money available through the Cultural Operating Grant by nearly $70-thousand.
