Official results have been released, and they confirm voters in Sechelt have approved a $7.4-million dollar loan to help pay for the wastewater treatment plant.
The final break-down from Saturday’s referendum is: Yes: 868 No: 853
However, only 23 per cent of the District’s eligible voters cast ballots. By contrast, turnout for the last municipal election in 2011 was just over 47 per cent.
The loan through the Green Municipal Fund also includes a $1-million grant.
The vote was not without controversy. People on the no side say some of their signs were improperly taken down on Saturday. One has filed a formal complaint with RCMP.
