"Rome wasn't built in a day," says Kenmore Air after start of Nanaimo – Seattle service

Kenmore Air is hoping passenger numbers will take off soon.

The company started direct flights between Nanaimo and Seattle, March 3rd.  The twice-daily trips are the first scheduled international flights out of the city’s airport.

Craig O’Neil, Director of Flight Administration, says week one was a little slow, but they’re optimistic.

The company also says it’s noticed a lot of the people using the service so far seem to flying for business.

Kenmore isn’t the only new service flying out of the airport.  FedEx started regular cargo flights about a month ago and stopped putting trucks on BC Ferries.  However, the company says it can’t comment on volumes.

Overall the Airport is reporting another jump in passenger numbers. More than 17-thousand 200 people went through Nanaimo in February.  An increase of 34 per-cent over February of 2013.
