A 44 year old man is facing attempted murder charges after an attack in Qualicum Beach.
Oceanside RCMP say the assault was reported just before 1:00pm on March 7th. A 66 year old man had been seriously injured, and had to be airlifted to hospital in Victoria.
Investigators say it didn’t take them long to figure out their main suspect was a younger man who knew the victim, and they put out an alert with a description of the man’s vehicle to other Island RCMP detachments. Late Friday afternoon, Port Alberni RCMP officers spotted the suspect’s vehicle, but there was no one in it. A dog team was brought in and eventually they tracked down the man, who’s now in custody awaiting a court appearance in Nanaimo on Monday.
RCMP say the severity of the victim’s injuries is one of the reasons they’re recommending the Crown go with an attempted murder charge.
