Part of a house on Nanaimo’s Estevan Road collapsed. Nanaimo Fire Rescue Crews were called to the scene on Thursday afternoon. Assistant Chief Wade Smith says it was lucky no one was home at the time.
Smith says, from talking to neighbours, it seems like neglect was an issue. Water had been leaked through the roof, causing the timber in the walls to rot and cave in. Smith says the Fire & Loss Prevention Division called in some structural experts to check it out. He says it’s unlikely the residents will be allowed back into the home, at least for now.
