Nanaimo Regional Hospital District poised to approve new equipment, upgrades at NRGH

Island Health is waiting for final approval from the Regional Hospital District for new equipment and upgrades for NRGH.

RDN Director of Finance Wendy Idema says a special committee is recommending the Hospital District Board give the OK to use local tax dollars to cover 40 per cent of the cost.

The CT scanner will cost about $2.7 million dollars.  The Nanaimo Hospital Foundation is planning a fundraising campaign around the scanner that could reduce the cost to taxpayers.

Island Health is also going to be looking for Hospital District approval on other projects that aren’t expected to come up for a few years, including a big upgrade to the electrical and heating systems at NRGH.  It has a price tag of more than 8 million.
