Shoebox campaigns underway

The Operation Christmas Child Campaign has started on Vancouver Island and The Sunshine Coast.

Families can choose to fill a shoebox for a boy or girl with items like stationary, toys, and items like a toothbrush or soap. Marita Rosenlind is the Operation Christmas Child Coordinator at New Life Baptist Church, and says the boxes will be distribute to children around the world.

For more information on how to get a shoebox you can contact the First Baptist Church in Nanaimo, the Oceanview Community Church in Ladysmith or the Calvary Baptist Church in Gibsons.

In the meantime, the Shoebox for Shelters campaign in Nanaimo is aiming to have 200 boxes to give to women’s shelters in time for Christmas this year.

Coordinator, Trish Schoular says it’s a good chance for co-workers or friends to get together and fill a box with items which is given to a woman in a shelter…..
Last year the Nanaimo Women’s Resource Centre and the Haven Society were given the collected boxes.
The campaign runs from tomorrow (Nov 1) to December 17th and there are 9 drop off points with one each in Parksville, Nanoose and Ladysmith a several in Nanaimo.
