Lake defends Island Health in Legislature

Health Minister Terry Lake is defending Island Health under questioning from NDP leader Adrian Dix and Green MLA Andrew Weaver.

Dix says the government should step-in after lay-off notices for workers at Sundridge Place, a care home in Duncan, and one in Campbell River.

Lake says the ministry and Island Health will ensure quality of care, and he expects most, if not all, the workers will be re-hired.

Weaver, meanwhile, is calling on Lake to force Island Health to release studies on the Care Delivery Model Redesign, that has care aids doing jobs nurses used to handle.
