Early morning fire in Nanaimo

Nanaimo Fire Rescue was called out early this morning for a house fire. The fire broke out at a home in the 300 block of 7th street just after 2:00am Monday.

Assistant Chief Greg Norman says the fire was venting through the roof when they arrived. He says there were four people in the home when the fire started but they all got out safely and no firefighters were injured. Three other people also lived in the house but weren’t home at the time. They are all getting help from Emergency Social Services.

There’s no word yet on cause or the extent of the damage. Norman says their Fire Loss Prevention Division is investigating.
