Boating accident in Jervis Inlet sends man to hospital

An injured man had to be airlifted out of Jervis Inlet, north of Sechelt, after crashing his boat onto some rocks in a narrow channel.

It happened around 5 Thursday evening as the boat was headed from Egmont to Princess Louisa Inlet.

Captain Trevor Reid of 442 Squadron in Comox says the boater deserves a lot of credit for being well prepared, including carrying an emergency locator beacon.

Other boaters came to the man’s aid and kept him warm with a fire on the beach while they waited for a helicopter from the base in Comox.  A Buffalo search and rescue plane and a Coast Guard boat from Powell River were also involved.

Reid says the rescue was tricky because the chopper had nowhere to land so the man had to be hoisted up.
