BC Ferries is awarding the 15-million dollar contract to build the cable ferry for the Buckley Bay to Denman Island run to Seaspan.
But it means the shipyard is pulling out of the bidding to build three other ferries for the company.
Seaspan was the only BC and the only Canadian shipyard in the running.
Seaspan’s president says with the cable ferry deal and a major contract for 17 ships for the Navy and Coast Guard they’re in the fortunate position of not being able to take on more work.
