Squamish Mayor pushing for action on derelict boats

The Mayor of Squamish is trying to rally local governments from around Howe Sound for a fresh push to do something about derelict vessels. Squamish has seen a couple of troubling incidents recently, including a diesel spill caused by a sinking tug.

Mayor Rob Kirkham is asking mayors and regional district chairs to add their signatures to a letter for West Vancouver Sunshine Coast and Sea to Sky MP John Weston. Kirkham says derelict vessels, and a host of related issues, haven’t been getting the attention they need from senior governments. He says it’s another case of “downloading”

Kirkham says Weston is supportive, and he hopes that by showing local governments are united, the MP might be able to get some action from Ottawa.
