Telus says no alternative plan after Council rejects Hammond Bay Rd cell tower

Telus says a thumbs down from Nanaimo Council has effectively ended plans for a cell tower in the Hammond Bay area.

Shawn Hall of Telus says they’ve spent the last three years trying to find a site that the community and the City could support in an effort to improve service in the notorious cell phone dead zone.

But the site on Hammond Bay Road that went before Council this week was their last good option.

Hall says he can’t predict how long it might be before Telus revisits the idea.

Only one Councillor, Bill McKay, backed the idea.  One reason he gave is the need to improve access to 9-1-1 for wireless users in the area.
