Tomorrow (Fri) is the day a Karen refugee family is scheduled to arrive on Vancouver Island.
The family of 8 is being sponsored by a group of Qualicum residents.
Carol Doering, chair of the Qualicum Refugee Sponsorship group says members of the group will be escorting the family from Vancouver to the island by ferry.
She says there is no doubt all members of the family will be exhausted and overwhelmed by the time they arrive in Qualicum so there are no plans for a formal ‘welcome’.
Doering says whether or not some sort of ‘official’ welcome happens down the road will depend on the family and if they are ready for such a thing.
