NDP building organization in new Nanaimo – Ladysmith riding

The federal NDP is laying the ground work to make a strong run at the new riding of Nanaimo – Ladysmith.

It’s going to take in part of the Nanaimo – Cowichan riding represented by the NDP’s Jean Crowder, who isn’t running again.

The party held its founding meeting for a new riding association over the weekend, and already some high profile names are showing interest in seeking the nomination .Names that include MLA Doug Routley, Islands Trust Chair Sheila Malcolmson and conservationist Laurie Gourlay.

Ken Pearce is President of the association.  He says they want to hold a nomination meeting soon.

Others who’ve come forward include Nanaimo Laywer Dominique Roelants, teacher and activist Kip Wood, Laurie Gourlay, and Darlene Thornburry.
