Residents oppose family moving into local church

There appears to be some public concerns about the future use of the Gibsons United Church property on Trueman Road.

Mary Bittroff presented her case to the Town of Gibsons council and thinks the Gibsons staff should review the temporary use permit before approving it.

The property is zoned as a public assembly zone and the temporary use permit would allow for a family to live in the Church building temporarily.

The Director of Planning for the Town of Gibsons, Andre Boel says the applicant isn’t planning to alter the existing structure or lot configuration, but they’d like to live there for the next few years. And during that time they’d like to work with Gibsons staff to figure out a solution.

A public notice for the the temporary use permit will be issued and council is hoping to hear some feedback from the community before they make a decision.
