Full house at town hall meeting

There were a lot of questions and concerns after Vancouver Coastal Health’s announcement that they’ve signed a contract with the Trellis Group to build and operate a new residential care centre in Sechelt.
Powell River – Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons held a town hall meeting in Sechelt on Wednesday night and hundreds of people showed up to voice and got their voices heard.

Wendy Beer with the Hospital Employee Union expressed some her concerns at the event.

Vancouver Costal Health was invited, didn’t attend, but did provide a pamphlet intended to address some public concerns.

In it, VCH says residential care is not being privatized in Sechelt because Coastal Health will be purchasing 125 beds in the new Silverstone facility. Those beds then, are publicly funded.
