SD 46 says miscommunication led to conflicting information about school closures

Monday’s storm prompted school closures in some areas, and there was confusion for parents in the Sunshine Coast School District when they started getting conflicting information.

SD 46 Superintendent Patrick Bocking says the miscommunication involved just one school; Chatelech Secondary.

Bocking says for an area like the Sunshine Coast the judgement call on closing schools involves a lot of elements.  But it mainly comes down to what they hear from the bus companies.

Bocking says they try to make a “snow day” decision no later than 7 am.

On Monday the District decided for an early dismissal after opening schools.  Bocking says that was a decision that also involved input from bus companies as well as the individual school principals.
